Carlos Zambrana-Torrelio

Carlos Zambrana-Torrelio is an evolutionary biologist interested in both ecological patterns and processes. He has a broad range of interests including biogeography, macroecology and conservation biology. Currently he is part of EcoHealth Alliance's modeling team examining the roles of biodiversity, land-use change, climate change, and other socio-economic, demographic, and environmental drivers on disease emergence.
As a Russell E. Train Education for Nature Program Fellow, he earned his MSc degree from the University of Puerto Rico. His research identified the determinants of species richness patterns, particularly species with a restricted range size often called endemic species. His work highlighted the effects of contemporary and historical factors that are controlling the patterns of species diversity.
A native of Bolivia, he previously worked at several conservation related NGOs and governmental organizations including the Herbario Nacional de Bolivia (LPB) and the Centro de Analisis Espacial (CAE). Zambrana-Torrelio's goal is to contribute to the development of high quality scientific research in Bolivia.
