Wildlife Trust (now EcoHealth Alliance) Named Recipient of Nature’s Path 2010 Envirokidz Giving Back Award
NEW YORK - June 4, 2010 - Wildlife Trust (now EcoHealth Alliance), the global conservation health organization, announced that it was named a recipient of Nature's Path Organic Foods' 2010 EnviroKidz Giving Back Award. The Giving Back Program donates money to non-profit organizations that support endangered species, habitat conservation, and environmental education for kids. Funds will support the Bolivian Bat Conversation program at the Centro de Estudios en Biologia Teorica y Aplicada, BIOTA. In Bolivia, Wildlife Trust Alliance conservation partner, BIOTA works to conserve bats through targeted environmental education programs. Bats are critical to the balance of ecosystems, providing seed dispersal, pollination, and insect control and are often vilified due to a lack of education about their ecological importance.
Wildlife Trust examines the effects of human-induced ecological change and the implications on wildlife conservation and public health. Around the world, Wildlife Trust's mission is two-fold - to predict and prevent the spread of emerging diseases and to protect wildlife from failing ecosystems through capacity building, scientific training, community education, and innovative research.
"Nature's Path Foods continues to be a strong supporter of Wildlife Trust. For over ten years, we have been able to create educational programming for local communities around the globe," said Dr. Peter Daszak, president of Wildlife Trust. "This funding will help continue the conservation and education efforts through our Wildlife Trust Alliance partner in Bolivia, to protect endangered bat species and inform local communities."
"It means so much to us to be able to support organizations like Wildlife Trust that are actively working to preserve the environment," said Arran Stephens, president and founder of Nature's Path Organic Foods. "The incredible customers who support our EnviroKidz line made it possible, and we are extremely grateful to them."
Nature's Path, North America's number one organic cereal manufacturer, celebrated the 10-year anniversary of its EnviroKidz Giving Back Award last year. For more information please visit www.naturespath.com.
