Conservation and Health Post Doctoral Research Scientist

EcoHealth Alliance is seeking a Post Doctoral Research Scientist to join our Conservation and Health team. We are looking for an ecologist or spatial ecologist with excellent analytical skills, experience collecting ecological field data including conducting wildlife surveys, biodiversity monitoring, and ecosystem services assessment. The applicant must have a proven track record of high-quality work analyzing the relationships between environmental variables and biodiversity and/or disease emergence. This full-time position is based at EcoHealth Alliance in New York City and will involve international travel for field work in remote areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Conservation & Health Team, this position will:

  • Work collaboratively with staff to write grants and proposals
  • Project coordination and budget management 
  • Provide administrative support for Conservation and Health Team programs, including contract preparation, budget tracking, credit card and expense reporting, and meeting scheduling
  • Draft and submit grant and other funding applications, and reports
  • Collaborate/lead on data collection, training for projects related to conservation & health 
  • Design and execute analytical analysis to understand the links between environmental variables and disease emergence
  • Execute ecological analysis for different projects
  • Engage with EcoHealth Alliance scientists and partners
  • Lead paper writing and statistical analysis about land use change, biodiversity, human health and similar topics
  • Work with the EcoHealth Alliance modeling team and external collaborators to develop scientific research projects on emerging disease ecology, land-use change, biodiversity and human health and well-being
  • Help set institutional direction as well as identify new opportunities and help to secure funding for them
  • Provide research, programmatic, and administrative support for the Conservation and Health team
  • Coordinate and take minutes for meetings, workshops, and calls as well as report and submit timesheets and expense reporting
  • Assist in some outreach to donors, potential collaborators, and other institutions at conferences, scientific, and public meetings may be required
  • Be responsible for grant management, program coordination, and cultivating relationships with funders

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in Ecological or Biological Sciences and strong analytical skills
  • Experience in disease ecology/ecology/modeling (at least two years) 
  • Publications demonstrating analytical skills and grant writing experience
  • Experience with traditional (GLM) and novel methodologies (machine learning and Bayseian analysis), knowledge of ecological niche models or SIR models, and experience with R/Phyton/Google Earth Engine
  • Experience with landscape ecology, remote sensing, land use mapping, and field work in remote and tropical areas
  • Enthusiasm for understanding disease emergence and the links with ecological determinants
  • Positive and constructive attitude in solving complex problems
  • Creativity to identify analytical strategies and proxy datasets for novel diseases
  • Strong sense of team spirit and cultural sensitivity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in English

Salary Range: USD $75,000-$85,000
