Junior Accountant: Finance and Budget

EcoHealth Alliance seeks a Junior Accountant to provide support to the financial department by managing daily accounting tasks. The Junior Accountant will be part of a team of professionals working to maintain order and transparency for the EcoHealth Alliance’s finances. The Junior Accountant should be well-versed in accounting principles and able to work comfortably with numbers and have strong attention to detail.


  • Enter incoming cash transaction/receipts into Abila MIPs Accounting Software. Reconcile AR accounts as well as revenue with development records.
  • Enter vendor invoices into accounting database and manage accounts payable aging.
  • Prepare weekly disbursement lists and perform reconciliations.
  • Review, update, and maintain allocations of expenses and revenue against funding sources and fiscal budgets.
  • Update financial data in accounting database to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed. Process journal entries for payroll allocations, indirect costs allocations, revenue, and receivables accounts.
  • Assist with processing semi-monthly payroll and time-keeping in ADP and monthly credit card transactions in Nexonia. Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned.
  • Enter funding source budgets into accounting database. Assist Finance Manager to track program and other departmental spending against budgets.
  • Assist Finance Manager with preparing monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc financial reports of revenue and expenditure against various funding streams.
  • Assist with various audit processes.
  • Assist senior accountants in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings.
  • Keep up-to-date on financial and reporting requirements for federal and other funders.
  • Assist with other accounting projects.
  • Other tasks as necessary


  • Bachelor degree in accounting, finance or relevant field or equivalent work experience
  • Excellent organizing abilities and great attention to detail
  • Good with numbers and figures and an analytical acumen
  • Good understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with relevant accounting software such as MIP
  • Understanding of nonprofit accounting and relevant FASB regulations and knowledge of federal uniform guidelines are a plus.

The position will initially be remote but will work at our EcoHealth Alliance New York City offices when they re-open, dependent on local conditions and based on staff safety.
